Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 15 / Trend E.Tariverdiyeva /

Work on the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Georgian border will continue, Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Teymuraz Sharashenidze told reporters.

"Today a quarter of the border remains controversial. Experts continue to work on these issues, including the one surrounding the David Gareja monastery complex, he said.

Georgia borders seven districts of Azerbaijan - Gazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz, Samukh, Gakh, Balakan and Zagatala along a distance of 480 kilometres. The parties have so far agreed on 65 per cent of the state border line.

The unresolved issue of the delimitation and demarcation of the Georgian-Azerbaijani border affects the fate of one of the attractions of the South Caucasus, the David Gareja monastery complex. A complex of cave monasteries, David Gareja is located 60 km south-east of Tbilisi. The St. David's lavra, located on the northern slope of the mountain that divides Georgia and Azerbaijan, is the main monastery.
