Congress of Elders supports Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy as Azerbaijani President

Candidacy of Ilham Aliyev as the President of Azerbaijan was supported during the 6th Extraordinary Congress of the Council of Elders on Saturday. In this regard, the Congress participants made an appeal to the President.

Azerbaijan due to its favorable geographical location, natural resources and economic potential is the leading country in the region, the appeal says.

Azerbaijan plays a crucial role in transnational energy and transport projects implemented in Eurasia, as well as in ensuring regional peace and security.

"In these conditions, it is very important for Azerbaijan to be governed by a principled and resolute politician, whom the people trust, who has rich governance experience and is able to properly assess the geopolitical situation and make strategic decisions. Therefore, we, elders, consider continuation of Your policy for the further development of Azerbaijan and welfare of the Azerbaijani people as important, and we welcome nomination of Your candidacy for president in the fourth congress of the Trade Unions Confederation of Azerbaijan," the report says.

Members of the Council of Elders also join this initiative and support President Ilham Aliyev's candidacy in the upcoming presidential election, the appeal says.

"You can be sure that by actively participating in the pre-election campaign, we will try to make the maximum contribution to promoting policy pursued by You," the appeal says.
