Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava entered the building of the Investigation Service of the Georgian Finance Ministry amid the rally in his support. A few hundred people who blocked vehicular traffic near the Finance Ministry are participating in the rally.
The leaders of the United National Movement - Secretary General Vano Merabishvili, leader of the parliamentary minority David Bakradze, spokesperson for the Georgian President and others are participating in the rally.
The rally participants are holding posters with various slogans in support of the mayor.
Tbilisi mayor was summoned to the investigation department for formal charges.
Ugulava will be charged concerning the appropriation of "Imedi" TV company fraudulently and funding of the United National Movement activists from the budgetary funds. According to the first case, Ugulava is accused that he has fraudulently appropriated the TV station from Joseph Kay.
According to the second case, more than 1,500 activists of the United National Movement were formally working in the city cleaning service and getting salaries without performing their work. He is accused of embezzling 5 million lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari).
Georgian Chief Prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili has recently said that Ugulava is not expected to be arrested.
