Professional and mobile Armed Forces with fast respond capabilities should be created in Georgia, Minister of Defence, Irakli Alasania said during a hearing at the Parliamentary Defence and Security Committee on Thursday.
According to him, a bill implying reduction of the military service term from 18 to 12 months was submitted to Parliament.
The complete transition of the armed forces to the contract system is planned to be implemented by the end of 2016.
"East and west operational commands will be created instead of the Command of the Ground Forces," Alasania said.
He said special attention will be paid to the development of special forces capabilities, increased mobility and counter mobility of the armed forces, efficient intelligence and shaping of the mobilisation system.
"Our goal is to ensure maximum transparency of the system and in particular in regard to procurement, finance and resource allocation," the minister said.
