Turkey has been granted the status of a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), TRT Haber TV channel reported.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Secretary General of the SCO Dmitry Mezentsev signed the memorandum on granting the partner status to Turkey in Alma Ata on Friday.

SCO is the permanent intergovernmental international organization, which brings together Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Declaration on the establishment of the SCO was signed at a meeting of the six states in Shanghai on June 15, 2001.

India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan have the observer status. In turn, Belarus and Sri Lanka are dialogue partners.
