Speaker of the Milli Mejlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan Oktay Asadov will appeal to the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

Asadov said at a session of Parliament on Tuesday that his appeal would concern MEPs bribed by the Armenian Diaspora.

According to the speaker a number of MEPs, including representatives of international organisations issue statements in connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which run counter to international norms, as well as support the Armenian aggression.

In his speech, Asadov also discussed the activities of certain forces in Azerbaijan.

"Armenians, united in the national question hit a single point. However, in Azerbaijan there are forces acting against our national interests," Asadov said.

The speaker also noted that a tough position should be taken against international organisations applying double standards in relation to Azerbaijan.

"I regret that some international organisations still pursue dual policy against Azerbaijan and in many cases we took a soft stance regarding the activities of these organisations. Now we have to take a hard line with regards to such structures and all sectors of society should support us. Society must unite to protect the national interests of Azerbaijan. Then we will react firmly to such attitudes," Asadov said.

Following the speaker's speech, the deputy Faraj Guliyev noted that Azerbaijan should reconsider its attitude to the countries that some MEPs represent.

MP Ali Masimli, in turn, called on the political parties, youth organisations and community members to be more active in this regard and said they should support the policies pursued by the state.

Today's meeting of parliament will elect the head of the working groups on inter-parliamentary relations, approve the institution of the jubilee medal '20th anniversary of the Special State Protection Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1993-2013)', introduce changes to the Electoral Code, the Penal Code, the Code of Administrative Offences , the laws 'On Copyright and Related Rights', 'On Publishing', 'On Legal Protection of samples of Azerbaijani folklore', 'On legal protection of collections of information', 'On the Fight against Corruption', 'On State Secrets', 'On the labour pension' and the law 'On municipal lands and territories'.
The draft law 'On Customs Tariff' will for the first time be presented for discussion at the end of the plenary meeting.
