The presidential candidacy of the chairman of Umid party Igbal Aghazade was approved at a meeting of Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission (CEC) on Tuesday.
The plenipotentiary representatives of the Umid party were also registered at the meeting, chaired by the CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov.
The protocol of CEC, dated August 12, 2013, was also approved at the meeting.
Thus, the number of the registered candidates reached four people. Besides Igbal Aghazade, the CEC has previously approved the candidacy of the chairman of ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of Azadlig party Ahmed Oruj and Ilgar Mammadov (Altay).
Azerbaijani citizens who have voting right (active or passive), the initiative group of voters, political parties and the blocs of political parties are entitled to the right to nominate their candidacy for participation in the presidential election.
The presidential election in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9. Previous presidential election was held on October 15, 2008. The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held every five years.
