The members of OSCE/ODIHR observation mission to presidential elections in Azerbaijan, led by Tana de Zulueta held a meeting with the chairman of the country's Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov on Thursday.
During the meeting, the CEC head said that he attaches a special importance to the activity of the observers in assessing election results.
He also noted that he is glad to see the observation mission of OSCE/ODIHR in Azerbaijan, the press-service of CEC told Trend on Thursday.
The head of OSCE/ODIHR mission for her part noted that both the pre-election situation and the election process itself will be observed. Tana de Zulueta asked the chairman of CEC to provide detailed information about the work carried out on preparations to presidential elections, which will be held on October 9, as well as asked questions about the enlightenment program of CEC, and the principles of election observation in Azerbaijan.
The chairman of Azerbaijani CEC provided the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission with detailed information about the Commission's activity, the conducted events and answered the guests' questions.
Previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008. Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held each 5 years.
