The UN Security Council will not be able not reach a consensus on Syria, the Director of the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) under the President of Azerbaijan, Farhad Mammadov believes.

"Azerbaijan has always supported U.S. resolutions on Syria presented to the UN Security Council, but Azerbaijan has its own principal position: first of all, it is necessary to stop the humanitarian catastrophe, which is happening now in Syria, and to stop the civil war," Mammadov told journalists on Friday.

According to him, the UN Security Council will not reach a certain consensus, because, "in the issue of intervening in the affairs of sovereign states, Russia and China will use their veto rights, and definitely the issue of implementation of force in the relation to Syria will not have a positive solution."

"Most likely, the USA will have to create a coalition or on its own, carry out pointed strikes on Syrian Army positions. It is quite possible that Washington will use preventive strikes," Mammadov said.

According to the Director of the Centre, the clamor raised by media outlets over the use of chemical weapons by government forces against civilians in Syria can be a method of information warfare.

"For example, the topic of existence of chemical weapons in Iraq was at one time actively used for implementation of geopolitical goals. At the same time it should be noted that the fact of existence of the weapon of mass destruction leaves no doubt, and the facts of implementation of chemical weapon against civilians should be assessed by an independent expert group," Mammadov underscored.
