Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission (CEC) has not registered the candidacies of the chairman of Citizen and Development Party (CDP) Ali Aliyev and self nominated candidate Ilgar Mammadov.
At the meeting on Friday it was noted that 5,571 signatures out of the total 42,634 signatures presented to the CEC for approving the candidacy of CDP chairman Ali Aliyev, were acknowledged to be invalid, that is why the process of checking the candidate's collected signatures was suspended, and there are no legal bases for approval his candidacy.
It was also noted that, as some 4,982 signatures out of 41,247 presented to the CEC for approving the candidacy of the self-nominated candidate Ilgar Mammadov, turned out to be invalid and his candidacy was not also registered.
The candidates began presenting documents from April 20. It should be noted that 22 persons have presented their documents to the CEC for approval of their candidacies. One of them wasn't admitted to the registration, while the candidacies of others were approved.
14 candidates returned the signature sheets and other necessary documents for registration of candidacies in the CEC, the remaining seven people have not returned the signature sheets and necessary documents.
The candidacies of the Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, chairman of Umid party Igbal Aghazade, self-nominated candidate Zahid Oruj, chairman of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of the Modern Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of the Social Democratic party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizadeh and chairman of the National Revival Party Faraj Guliyev were approved at the previous meeting of the CEC.
The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9. Previous presidential elections in the country were held on October 15, 2008. Azerbaijan holds presidential elections every five years.
