The Azerbaijani and Iranian parliamentarians discussed prospects of bilateral relations, the Milli Mejlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan told Trend on Tuesday.
The speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov received the Iranian delegation, which included members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament) of Iran.
An extensive exchange of ideas on prospects of further development of inter-parliamentary ties, ways of settling local conflicts and other issues of common interest were carried out during the meeting.
Azerbaijan is interested in developing ties with Iran in various fields, Asadov said.
The speaker underscored the importance of friendship groups in the development of inter-parliamentary relations and said that the systematic conduct of such meetings is very important.
"To date, our countries have signed over 100 documents that create favourable grounds for the development of not only in political, but also in economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres," the Speaker said.
Expansion of cooperation between the legislative bodies contributes to the development of relations in other spheres, Iranian MP Javad Jahangirzadeh said.
