The chairman of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) Sardar Jalaloglu has resigned, the party's Deputy Chairman Nuraddin Ismayilov told Trend on Friday.
According to him, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Sardar Jalaloglu nominated by the party to participate in the presidential election, appealed to the Executive Committee of the structure with a statement of resignation from the post of the chairman.
"I bring to your attention that I consider a course of constructive opposition proposed by me in 2005, collapsed due to lack of support in the country and by the international community. I take upon myself all the responsibility for my defeat at the presidential election of 2013. Considering this, and in order not to cast a shadow on the struggle of the members and supporters of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, I have decided to resign. Please consider my application in accordance with the charter of the party, and make the necessary decision," the document said.
The application of Jalaloglu will be reviewed at the next board meeting of the DPA.
According to the number of votes at the presidential elections in Azerbaijan Sardar Jalaloglu finished last (0.61 % or 22728 votes) among the presidential candidates.
Presidential election was held in Azerbaijan on October 9. According to the data of the CEC and various exit-poll, current President Ilham Aliyev is far ahead with 84.55 percent of the vote (3,126,612 voters).
