Azerbaijan is ready to introduce a visa regime with Russia if the neighboring country makes such an initiative, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu told the media today.
"I do not think this is a serious problem," he added. "Today, citizens of both countries visit Azerbaijan and Russia with foreign passports."
According to the ambassador, he officially said this to Russian officials.
"If Russia makes such an initiative, Azerbaijan will rapidly consider and resolve the issue," he added.
According to him, the embassy is controlling Orkhan Zeynalov's case, who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Yegor Shcherbakov.
"Consular officials met with him," he said. "Zeynalov had the opportunity to voice his complaints. The relevant Russian agencies were informed about them. The court will make a decision on his guiltiness or innocence."
According to him, the riots and the worsening of the attitude towards migrants after the crime, will not affect the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
"There are no problems in the relations between the two countries," he said. "One must not politicize these and other crimes, which, unfortunately, are committed. Russia is a large country in which there is a shortage of workers. Winter comes and someone has to clean up the streets or do other work."
"However, people must be held accountable for the committed acts," he added.
"I have said many times," he said. "While using this opportunity, I reiterate that the Soviet era remains in the past. Russia is a foreign country with its own, sometimes quite strict laws that must be followed. Before going to other country for a vacation or to work, it is necessary to examine the laws, customs, rules of stay, the language of that country."
