Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.14

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A delegation of economic and trade entities from Germany will travel to Iran soon, the Mehr News Agency quoted the chairman of the Iranian chamber of commerce as saying on Jan. 14.

Gholamhossein Shafei made the statement in a meeting with German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg in Tehran.

Expansion of trade ties between Iran and Germany will lead to sustainable political relations between the two countries, Shafei said.

The German ambassador, for his part, said that the decline in the Iran-Germany trade in recent years is unfortunate and Germany is displeased with the issue.

The international sanctions on Iran have impeded trade between the two countries, he noted.

Germany is reportedly the European Union's biggest exporter of goods to Iran, well ahead of Italy and France.

Despite US-led sanctions, business ties between Germany and Iran remain strong. German firms continue to engage in brisk trade with Iran and are finding ways of exporting goods to the country, Press TV reported.

Major imports and exports between the two nations include oil, machinery and pharmaceuticals. The volume of trade is around 2.8 billion euros. But that figure could easily go up in the next six months. And the Iranian-German Chamber of Commerce is more than any other entity positive about that.
