Iran is keen to boost economic relations with Turkmenistan, Iran's Ambassador to Turkmenistan Mohammad Reza Hashemi Golpayegani said, Iranian Fars news agency reported on Jan. 18.

Iran's 8th Exclusive Exhibition in Turkmenistan is planned to be inaugurated on February 27, the ambassador said, adding that one of Iranian senior officials will attend in the exhibition.

Iran will present different goods and services, including foodstuff, food processing and packing industries, printing machines, animal husbandry and agricultural facilities and machines, construction materials, civil engineering facilities, technical and engineering services, transportation, sports goods, mining, oil, gas and petrochemical industrial machines in the exhibition.

During the previous seven exhibitions in Turkmenistan, Iran presented hand and machine-woven carpets, medical facilities, decorative stones... and sought and found good opportunities for the transfer of technologies and investment in that Central Asian republic.

The value of trade between Iran and Turkmenistan is estimated to be around $5 billion a year, and Iranian and Turkmen officials have expressed the hope that the figure could reach $10 billion in the coming years.

On August 5, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani also praised the close ties between Iran and Turkmenistan, and emphasized the need for further enhancement of bilateral relations between the two nations.

In a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow at the time, President Rouhani pointed to the amicable relations between Tehran and Ashgabat.

"Bilateral relations in economic, political and cultural fields will further develop in the future," he said.
