Within the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), elections were held for a new chairman of the organization on Jan.27.

The member of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg Anne Brasseur was elected PACE chairman.

Anne Brasseur gathered 165 votes outrunning her competitor, MP from Great Britain Robert Walter who gathered 125 votes.

Prior to nomination to this post, Anne Brasseur was a chairman of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe political group in PACE.
