The necessary consent was obtained for using balloons in the control and monitoring of the borders and checkpoints and currently they are being deployed at the border as a pilot scheme, deputy chief of the Iranian police, Ahmad-Reza Radan said on Jan. 29, ISNA reported.

Radan said the balloons are capable of flying at high altitude.

"Balloons are equipped with cameras. That is why there is no need for a soldier or any person to be in the balloon," he added.

Radan said the balloons are made of a bulletproof material.

"The police plans to use these balloons not only at the bolder, but also in the future monitoring of roads and other areas under police control," he emphasised.

Last year Iran created a unit of unmanned aerial vehicles within its border forces to strengthen control over its borders.

A unit of unmanned aerial vehicles was created within the border forces of Sistan and Baluchestan province to strengthen air control over Iran's eastern borders.
