Iran and Turkey are important and influential countries in the region, and cooperation of these countries is very important for solving the problems of the Muslim countries, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said at a meeting with the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Cemil Cicek, the Iranian IRNA news agency reported on Feb.19.
The development of bilateral relations between Iran and Turkey, regional and international issues were discussed at the meeting which was held within the ninth session of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tehran.
Turkey and Iran are friendly and brotherly countries, Larijani said.
"The expansion of cooperation and holding of consultations between Iran and Turkey on regional issues and the issues of development of bilateral ties is very important," the Iranian speaker said.
Cicek in turn added that the comprehensive development of relations with Iran is a priority of Turkish foreign policy. Pointing out that the region has a very complex situation, Cicek emphasized the importance of holding consultation to find solutions to existing problems.
The ninth session of OIC Inter-Parliamentary Union began on Feb.18 in Tehran. The session will be completed on Feb.19. Delegations of 47 countries, including 26 speakers are participating in the session's work.
