Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has talked by phone with his Pakistani counterpart about the latest developments in the kidnapped Iranian border guards` case on March 3, deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi said, the country's ISNA news agency reported on March 4.

Five Iranian border guards were abducted in the Jakigour region in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province on Feb. 6 and transferred to Pakistan.

The Jaish-ul-Adl group which kidnapped the guards tweeted on Feb. 26 that a Religious Court had sentenced five Iranian soldiers to death, after the Iranians executed one of the relatives of the group's members in Iran.

According to the tweets of Jaish-ul-Adl, the executions have not yet been carried out.

Araqchi went on to say that freeing the kidnapped guards is priority of the Iranian foreign ministry.

"We are in contact with Pakistani officials pursuing the case," he added.

Iranian officials held Pakistan accountable on the issue.

On Feb. 25, Iranian media outlets quoted official with the Iranian foreign ministry, Mohammad Rafiei as saying Pakistan had found the hiding place of the Jaish-ul-Adl group.

On March 1, some Iranian officials said the border guards had been released but the reports were dismissed a few hours later.
