Azerbaijani citizens working for the Armenian and Iranian intelligence services were detained as a result of an operation carried out in Azerbaijan in 2013.

As a result of targeted anti-terrorist measures undertaken in 2013, an Azerbaijani citizen was arrested, according to a report from the Cabinet of Ministers submitted to the Parliament in 2013.

He is accused of providing a foreign country with information about the socio-political situation in the country, oil strategy, the processes in the region, the country's leadership and state officials.

Another Azerbaijani citizen was also arrested. The report indicates he is accused of establishing criminal relations with persons of Armenian origin living in Russia and of forging and selling documents.

Two other citizens of Azerbaijan were also arrested and accused of pointing out Israeli citizens living in Azerbaijan, and collecting information about employees of the country's diplomatic mission in Baku. They are also accused of hacking into databases of Azerbaijani mobile operators and the State Traffic Police. They are believed to have conducted video surveillance for the Iranian intelligence service.

Another Iranian citizen was arrested and accused of collaborating with Iranian intelligence services and smuggling weapons and ammunition.
