Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who had a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday, warned Washington against rash steps that might ultimately tell negatively on the United States, ITAR-TASS reported according to Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Sergei Lavrov warned against hasty and rash steps that might have a negative effect on the Russian-U.S. relations, especially in what concerns sanction measures that might have boomerang impact on the United States in the long run," the ministry noted.

"In line with the instructions issued by Presidents Vladimir Putin [of Russia] and Barack Obama [of the United States], who discussed the situation in Ukraine over the phone on Thursday, the two countries' foreign ministers agreed to continue contacts over the acute political crisis in Ukrain," the ministry said.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the telephone conversation was initiated by the U.S. side.
