Ashton told journalists at the airport that the object of her day trip to Isfahan was to visit Isfahan`s historical monuments.
Ashton said she was glad to have the opportunity to visit a city she was only familiar with through reading about in books. I am well acquainted with the history and looking forward to seeing it firsthand.
Ashton met with a number of Iranian officials while in Tehran, including President Hassan Rohani, Iran's parliament (Majlis) speaker, Ali Larijan, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and others on March 9.
