Ukraine will not be represented at a meeting of chiefs of staff of the Commonwealth of Independent States to be held in Baku, the third secretary on cultural, humanitarian and information affairs of the Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan Yuri Lupey told Trend on March 25.
The head of the Information Policy Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Yevgen Perebyinis said that in accordance with the Belovezhskaya agreement signed in 1991. Ukraine was one of the founders of the CIS. However, it did not approve the organisation's charter, therefore de jure is not party to the Commonwealth.
Earlier, Ukraine announced the suspension of its presidency in the CIS in 2014.
Azerbaijan will host the meeting of the Committee Chiefs of Staff of the CIS countries on April, 7-8. This is the first time Azerbaijan will have hosted an event of this type.
