By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

It is yet unclear, whether Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be participating in Turkey's presidential election.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay was quoted on April 2 by Haber Türk TV channel as saying that the election is scheduled for August 10.

Previously, a number of Turkish media outlets reported that Prime Minister Erdogan will nominate his candidacy in the presidential election.

The presidential election will be held in Turkey in two rounds. If no candidate receives the required number of votes in the first round, then the second round will be held on August 24.

The Turkish president will be elected by people, rather than the parliament from 2014 as opposed to the previous presidential election, according to the referendum results of 2007.

The Turkish president will be elected for five years instead of seven years earlier in accordance with the referendum outcome.
