Need for regular consultations between Iran, Azerbaijan

There is a need for regular consultations between Iran and Azerbaijan, according to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania, Special Representative for Caspian Sea Affairs, Ebrahim Rahimpour.

"Some 22 years have passed since the day Azerbaijan gained its independence and during this period the relations between our two countries have developed unevenly. However now these relations are balanced and are at a higher level that satisfies both sides," Rahimpour told Trend.

He said strengthening of Azerbaijan's position on the international level has created condition for development of the country's relations with other states, including Iran.

Regarding the countries' relations in the political sphere, the deputy minister said these relations are at a high level. He added that Iran and Azerbaijan support each other in settlement of various issues of bilateral relations, regional and international processes.

The deputy minister also said Iran and Azerbaijan can cooperate with other countries in the region in ensuring regional security.

Rahimpour also said that due to various developments in the region, there is a need to hold regular consultations between Iran and Azerbaijan.
