The meetings of the CIS councils of heads of state and heads of government will be held in Belarusian capital of Minsk in May and October respectively, according to CIS Executive Secretary, Sergey Lebedev.

Lebedev made the remarks speaking to journalists on Monday, May 5, Belarusian BELTA news agency reported.

He said that during its CIS chairmanship, Belarus will host a lot of different forums and conferences.

One of the major events - the meeting of the CIS heads of government will be held on May 30 in Minsk.

"Currently, we and the Belarus government's office are engaged in a concrete preparation for the event. We hope to see the visits of all CIS heads of government. We also expect that there will also be the representatives of Ukraine. This would meet the interests of Ukraine itself, and, of course, the interests of the commonwealth countries," Lebedev said.

He went on to add that the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of Government includes 20 important issues concerning the preservation and strengthening of innovation cooperation, joint work in the humanitarian sphere, education, strengthening cooperation in the field of information and others.

The summit meeting - the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State will be held in Minsk in mid-October. Prior to this meeting there will be a traditional meeting of CIS Foreign Ministers.

Regarding other major events, Sergey Lebedev said Minsk will also host a congress of teachers of CIS countries. The representatives of the CIS countries will also take part in a series of events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi-Fascist invaders.

They will also participate in the traditional autumn film festival called "Leaf Fall".

Besides that, Belarus will host meetings of a whole range of industry councils. These meetings were previously scheduled to take place in Ukraine.
