OIC expressed concern over Iraqi situation

Baku, Azerbaijan, June 13

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Iyad bin Amin Madani expressed concern about the situation in Iraq.

The report said that the OIC calls on Iraqi leaders to take decisive action to prevent a critical situation in the country, especially in the northern city of Mosul, the report of the organization said.

The critical situation in Iraq poses a serious threat to the unity of the state, according to the report.

It was earlier reported that the militants of the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant group, took control of Mosul - the second most populous city in Iraq.

The situation in northern Iraq sharply escalated last week. Nearly 60 people were killed as a result of numerous clashes between the Iraqi security forces and militants near the city of Mosul.

The 'Islamic state' controlled the western part of Mosul in recent days. It attacked and captured the governor's residence building on June 9.

This is followed by reports that militants of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant", after previously capturing Mosul and Tikrit plan to occupy Baghdad.
