Russia proposes to create an international contact group within the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to settle the crisis in Ukraine, Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said on June 28 at the OSCE PA meeting in Baku.

Naryshkin said the creation of an international contact group within the OSCE PA will help to consolidate efforts and help to find a way out of the crisis in Ukraine.

"We propose to establish an international contact group on the situation in Ukraine on the site of our assembly, as well as to discuss ways of settling this crisis at the wider international conference," Naryshkin said.

He said this will help to add an effective parliamentary dimension to Ukraine's finding a way out the constitutional and humanitarian crisis.

Naryshkin is convinced that only with joint efforts it is possible to solve the issue.

He also stated about the need to extend the truce in Ukraine.

"The anxiety over the future of Ukraine and Europe is retained, interruption in talks and resumption of fire cannot be allowed. It is necessary to extend the truce and finally make it real," Naryshkin said.

He also urged the assembly members to assess the situation in Ukraine on the basis of facts only.

The 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE PA has started in Baku today and will last until July 2. A meeting of the committees on political and security issues, economic issues, science, technology and environment, as well as democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues will be held during the session.

Moreover, special debates on the growth of extremism, radicalism and xenophobia, as well as the situation in Ukraine are planned to be held. The management of the assembly will be elected at the annual session.

The results of the election monitoring missions' activity and organizational issues of the assembly will be discussed.

The OSCE PA 2014 Baku Declaration will be adopted following the discussions.
