Baku, Azerbaijan, June 30

By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

OSCE intends to resume the activity of its office in Azerbaijan.

The 45th amendment calling on permitting resumption of activity of an OSCE office in Azerbaijan has been made to the draft resolution on democracy, human rights and humanitarian questions discussed in the OSCE PA committee.

Head of the Human Rights Committee of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (parliament), Rabiyat Aslanova protested against the amendment and demanded removal of that paragraph from the draft resolution, but the amendment was put to the vote and adopted.

OSCE Baku Office has received the status of project coordinator. The new mandate entered into force on January 1, 2014. The corresponding decision was made at the OSCE Permanent Council on July 26, 2013.

The adopted amendments are not the final ones; they will also be discussed at the OSCE PA session. Possibly, these amendments will not be adopted at this session.
