Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Vladimir Dorokhin sees no reason to politicize the situation surrounding the trial of Orkhan Zeynalov, who is accused of killing Moscow resident Yegor Sherbakov.

"I don't think that as a Russian ambassador, I should comment on what happens in a court in Moscow. The trial is underway in accordance with Russia's procedural rules. The preliminary judicial investigation has been carried out and the prosecutor expressed his opinion. Then the defense will be heard and following this, the court will pronounce a judgment," the ambassador said on July 22.

He went on to add that those who don't agree with the court decision can make an appeal, stressing that everything is carried out within the law and the judicial system.

"I don't think that there is a reason to politicize this situation. The investigation is underway; your compatriot has lawyers which can defend his interests. I believe that everything is in the legal framework and there are all grounds to hope that a just decision will be made," Dorokhin said.

A 25-year-old resident of Moscow, Yegor Shcherbakov, was killed in the Biryulevo district of the Russian capital in October 2013. This incident stirred up public resentment and eventually led to riots. The police detained Zeynalov in the Moscow vicinity on suspicion of the murder and brought him to the capital. The prosecutor demanded 18 year-imprisonment for Zeynalov. The court will pass a judgment on July 28.
