By Umid Niayesh - Trend:

Secretary of Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani says Iran supports the legal procedure taken in the election of the Iraqi new prime minister, Heidar al-Ebadi.

Commenting about the differences among the Iraqi groups on the procedure of the prime minister appointment, Shmakhani called it a symbol of democracy and the dynamic political atmosphere in Iraq, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Aug. 13.

The official also called all Iraqi political groups to adhere to legal frameworks forecasted in the constitution and follow a national unity path to maintain peace.

Shamkhani went on to say that some countries play psychological war against the Iraqi people, promoting unreal news about the current political developments in Iraq.

He said that these countries are responsible for the ongoing crisis in Iraq, refusing to disclose any names.

On August 12 Iraq President Fouad Massoum appointed al-Ebadi to form a new Iraqi cabinet.

Iraq's Sunni neighbors Turkey and Saudi Arabia, as well as the U.S., also welcomed al-Ebadi's appointment.

He is required to form a new cabinet within 30 days.

The newly appointed PM still faces opposition at home. His Shiite colleague Nouri al-Maliki has refused to step aside after eight years as prime minister.
