Azerbaijani CEC to consider only written complaints

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan will consider only written complaints. "Complaints that are not proven through facts will not be considered by us," the CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov said on Nov. 16.

Municipal elections in Azerbaijan will be held on December 23. 15,682 members are supposed to be elected for 1,718 municipalities. Formerly, municipal elections were held twice - in 1999 and 2004.

According to Panahov, sometimes candidates for municipalities complain to the Commission regarding the pressure on them by the employees of different agencies through phone. "However, studying these complaints revealed a discrepancy of their validity. Therefore, the Commission will continue to consider only written complaints," said the Chairman of the CEC.
