Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 5 / Trend News K.Zarbaliyeva /

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev ordered special measures to prevent the spread of the swine flu in the armed forces.

Abiyev issued instructions to the leadership of the Azerbaijani armed forces to prevent the spread of highly dangerous viral infections among military personnel and take necessary preventive measures, the ministry's Press Service told Trend News today.

Based on his order, deputy defense ministers, commanders and department, service, agency, military and educational institution heads must work to protect the health of their soldiers. They have already commenced measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Yesterday an Azerbaijani citizen was diagnosed with the AH1N1 virus. The individual resides temporarily in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk region and returned by rail to Kurdamir Oct. 26.

The patient is being treated. Preventive measures are also being taken with individuals who were in contact with the patient.

Two cases of the swine flu were reported in July in individuals arriving to Azerbaijan from France and England. Both fully recovered.

The WHO has donated 300 million doses of a vaccine against the A/H1N1 virus to 90 countries, including Azerbaijan. The first shipment will be delivered to the country in November.

According to the WHO, 400,000 cases of the swine flu have been identified worldwide.
