Azerbaijan, Baku, January 14 / Trend News, K.Zarbaliyeva /

After the armed attack at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, the number of appeals to the Interior Ministry for organizing protection of educational institutions have increased.
Protection was ensured at 25 educational institutions belonging to the Ministry of Education, chief of ministry's head security department Madat Guliyev told Trend News.

Three of them are secondary schools, 11 - lyceums and 11 - universities. According to the department chief, the agreements on the protection of these institutions were concluded last year.

"Mostly appeals on security were made after the armed attack at the State Oil Academy," Guliyev said.

This year, the department did not receive appeals from schools for organizing protection, said interior ministry representative.

On April 30, 2009 an act of terror was committed at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. 29-year-old citizen of Georgia Farda Gadirov killed 12 and wounded 13 people. After this, the issue of protecting education institutions became urgent.

Certain time ago the Minister of Education Misir Mardanov told the media that an agreement was signed on providing security of secondary and higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan by the special security service from the new academic year.

"I can assure parents that the government gives guarantees for the safety of their children. Security will be provided at public and private educational institutions," said Mardanov.
