![]() Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 4 / Trend News H.Hasanov / The next round of talks on security in the Caspian is scheduled for January 2010 in Baku. The announcement was made at a meeting on the convention of the Caspian Sea's status in Ashgabat today, a source close to the talks in Ashgabat told Trend News. Ashgabat is hosting a working group meeting on the Caspian Sea's legal status. The meeting is attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and Turkmenistan. Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov represents Azerbaijan in the event. A Tehran summit of Caspian heads of state was held in October 2007. The summit resulted in the development of an agreement on security issues in the Caspian Sea. Coordination was entrusted to Azerbaijan, which held a later meeting in Baku in October 2009. The status of the Caspian Sea is determined by the 1922 and 1940 treaties between the Soviet Union and Iran. Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran have not agreed on the delimitation of the seabed.
