OSCE president supports Kazakhstan

OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Vice Speaker Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev met with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Joao Soares today during his working visit to Kazakhstan.

The sides exchanged their thoughts about Kazakhstan's forthcoming OSCE chairmanship.

Noting the visit's importance, the speaker thanked Soares for supporting Kazakhstan at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Soares said he fully supports the "idea of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE."

"We are pleased to see Kazakhstan's professionalism and readiness, as well as the country's confidence that it will successfully execute this important mission," he said.

According to the official, Kazakhstan's chairmanship will allow the country to make progress in security, sustainable economic development, the environment, and human rights.

The 2010 Eurasian Parliamentary Conference on Security and Cooperation in Kazakhstan was also discussed at the meeting.

"I also support Kazakhstan's idea to hold the OSCE summit during the year of its presidency. The last time the summit was held in 1999 in Istanbul," Soares said after meeting with Tokayev.

Wishing success to Kazakhstan during its OSCE chairmanship, Soares stressed the organization's readiness to provide assistance and support to the country.
