The leader of the Alliance for Georgia Irakli Alasania said after the meeting at the residence of U.S. ambassador in Tbilisi that the members of the delegation promised Georgian opposition to "reach a consensus during the dialogue with the authorities." The American delegation, which met with opposition leaders, was led by Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael Posner. Alasaniya said that the meeting focused on the electoral system, the theme of the depoliticization of law-enforcement agencies, the problems associated with the media. "One of the main topics was the municipal elections. We demand to create such an election environment that will facilitate conducting free elections," said Alasaniya, adding that the topic was actively discussed at the meeting. According to her, at today's meeting the opposition had an opportunity to thoroughly discuss relevant issues. Burjanadze said that the American delegation was very interested in meeting with the opposition. "I asked the U.S. side to call specific dates, for example, when political prisoners will be freed and when political repression will be stopped, and I hope that after this meeting, specific issues will be solved," said Burjanadze.
