Kazakhstan, Astana, Nov.26 / Trend News, K.Konyrova /

A memorandum of understanding was signed in Astana today between the UNDP and Kazakh government covering the country's new stage of national development from 2010-1014, representative of the UNDP Kazakhstan Office Shinar Zhetpisova told Trend News.

"Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UNDP has continued 15 years thanks to an agreement signed Oct. 4, 1994. Our established partnerships and strategic dialogue will now be carried out in a new format," Zhetpisova said.

Kazakhstan has celebrated a decade since the launch of Kazakhstan's national development strategy up to 2030. Thi week the country entered a new stage of development whereby it is no longer a traditional recipient of foreign aid.

The UNDP is working with partners in support of sustainable development, poverty reduction, women's rights, democratic management and the rule of law. Development cooperation within the memorandum is based on a results-oriented approach in accordance with international methodologies and standards.

Zhetpisova said according to the document the UNDP's major partners are Kazakhstan's Economic Affairs Ministry and Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry acts as a leading partner while implementing UNDP activities in Kazakhstan and the Economic Affairs Ministry coordinates the development of the state's socio-economic policy's main directions, including international financial and economic cooperation issues.

The sides will form a strategic advisory board headed by the Economics Ministry, Zhetpisova said.

The board will discuss cooperation between the UNDP and Kazakhstan, she added.
