Tbilisi worried over Russia-French warship deal

The Georgian Foreign Ministry hopes France will take into account that Tbilisi is "tremendously worried" about Russia's possible purchase of French helicopter carrier amphibious assault warships.

Presently, the sides only negotiate on purchase of the Mistral helicopter carrier amphibious assault warship, Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said.

According to her, Georgia considers France as a strategic ally and Georgia side has already fixed its position on the possible sale of the French aircraft carrier to Russia.


"We hope France to take into account our concerns," he said. "Moreover, Russia had made amendments to the law on its armed forces to legitimize aggression against other countries."


This issue was raised during his visit to Paris, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia Grigol Vashadze.

Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze also mulled the issue during his Paris visit.
