Peace Corps holds the swearing-in ceremony for volunteers in Azerbaijan

64 Peace Corps Azerbaijan Trainees will be sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers. Beginning Dec. 11, Peace Corps Volunteers will start to work in schools and organizations in 32 Azerbaijani districts.

64 Peace Corps Azerbaijan Trainees will be sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers. Beginning Dec. 11, Peace Corps Volunteers will start to work in schools and organizations in 32 Azerbaijani districts, applying their knowledge, skills and experience to the development of Azerbaijani communities and organizations. Volunteers working in Azerbaijan have always expressed their admiration for the hospitality, kindness of the Azerbaijani people," the Director of the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan Meredith Daulton said at the swearing-in ceremony.

The Peace Corps Azerbaijan Program was established in 2003. Today the Peace Corps has three programs in Azerbaijan - 1) Community Economic Development; 2) Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL); 3) Youth Development. Since the first group arrived in the country, 261 Volunteers have served.

Peace Corps is an U.S. Government organization established in 1961 by former U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Peace Corps builds peace and friendship by helping people of developing countries build their skills and knowledge by sending qualified Americans, and to promote a better understanding between different countries through cultural exchange. Since then, nearly 200,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139 countries around the world.
