"It is necessary to convene the first meeting of the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament in Tashkent on January 25-26, 2010," the document said.
According to the Uzbek Electoral Law, 84 members of the Senate were elected among these MPs during joint sessions of MPs of representative agencies of state authority of Karakalpakstan, Uzbek regions and Tashkent. About 16 Senate members are appointed by Uzbek President Islam Karimov. The bicameral parliament in Uzbekistan was formed in 2005.
