![]() Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb. 5 / Trend News N.Kirtzkhalia / U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Phillip Gordon, who arrived in Tbilisi this morning, will meet with parliamentary opposition. Before the meeting, Christian-Democrats leader Giorgi Targamadze said that he would raise the issue of Georgia's security and America's role, as well as the modification of electoral legislation and the process of adopting a new constitution. Georgia has not achieved progress in terms of democracy and the U.S. should take more effective steps in this direction, Levan Gachechiladze, leader of Defense Georgia, said. "If Georgia does not change the regime, it would not change anything," he added. New Rights Party leader David Gamkrelidze said the visit is important and the opposition should take advantage and familiarize the U.S. State Department with the situation in Georgia. "President Mikheil Saakashvili has shown his face during the presidential elections in Ukraine, and if he also plans to hold elections in Georgia, destabilization is inevitable, but our country needs stability and democratic elections," he said.
