UNICEF Regional Director to familiarize with Azerbaijani children' challenges

UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe/CIS , Mr. Steven Allen will start his three-day visit to Baku  May 10. Results for children in the areas of health, education and protection will be the subjects of the visit.

During his meetings, Allen will get better acquainted with the challenges Azerbaijani children face and the work implemented by the Government of Azerbaijan and UNICEF to help them and as part of the efforts to create "Azerbaijan Fully Fit for Children".

Allen is expected to meet senior Government officials - including the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Health, Social Protection, Education, Youth and Sports, the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the First Lady Ms. Mehriban Aliyeva, the Chairman of the Parliament and representatives of civil society, the international development community and the United Nations.

Prior to his current assignment, Allen served as Director, Division of Human Resources in UNICEF New York Headquarters. Mr. Allen is a national of the United Kingdom. 

The United Nations Children's Fund established in 1946, has been working in Azerbaijan since 1993.
