Opening of the UN Central Asian Office on protection of environment or climate change in Turkmenistan is possible, the country's Foreign Ministry said.

"Activity of this Office will allow the region's (Central Asia) countries actively participate in the strategic organization and planning of regional and international policies on protection of environment, to become a full member of the activities undertaken by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme", said in the report.  

The main goal is mobilizing, seeking financial, technical and consultative resources to implement global and regional priorities that are adapted to the conditions of the region and solving issues stipulated by conventions and other international agreements on environmental protection, Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry said.

Since 2007 Turkmenistan regularly carries out various activities for the countries of the Central Asian region on climate change. As a result of these measures also were taken the recommendation to establish a regional office of the UN Environment Programme or the UN Regional Centre for Climate Change in Ashgabat.

"The Central Asian countries will have greater opportunity to solve together with the international community priority environmental issues related to climate change, biodiversity, combating desertification and land degradation. The Central Asian region will gain additional opportunities to receive investment of the international community to solve these and other global environmental problems."
