Painful points exist not only in Asia, but also in Europe, and require the joint efforts of two international organizations such as the OSCE and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), OSCE Chairman, Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev said in Istanbul today.

"There is a need for a joint forum, which could be a dialogue platform for the two organizations' member-states," Saudabayev said.

Today, Istanbul hosts a special event, "Safety and economic cooperation in Eurasia in the 21st century", for the OSCE Asian partners (Australia, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Japan).

Opening the event, Saudbayev noted that today the notion of European security goes far beyond the continental framework, covering the vast space of Eurasia.

"That is why the number of common points in the OSCE and the CICA for ensuring security in areas of responsibility steadily grew. Therefore, handling of the notion of "Eurasian security implying the mutual influence and addition of Asian and European trends" becomes more appropriate," he noted.

In his speech, Saudabayev voiced Kazakhstan's new initiative to establish an OSCE-CICA common forum.

"We believe major regional groupings of Eurasia such as the OSCE and the CICA should redouble efforts to promote economic cooperation in the interests of all participant-states," Saudabeyev said.

He stressed that the OSCE -CICA Forum could become a "permanent dialogue platform between the two structures, allowing to discuss and examine topical issues of security and cooperation in the vast Eurasian continent." "As well as the incidents such as the recent tragic incident in the Mediterranean Sea", Saudabayev said.
