Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 April /corr. Trend I.Alizade / The number of the employees of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan will again be reduced. "Certain staff reductions will be made within reforms in the Academy," the President of the Academy, Mahmud Kerimov, briefed the media on 30 April.
Over the recent seven years, several institutes of the Academy have been liquidated and several of them were united and as a result, nearly 1,500 people were reduced. Currently 9509 people work in the Academy. The Academy includes more than 30 institutes, scientific centers and museums.
According to Kerimov, several unimportant spheres still function in the Academy. "The employees of these spheres should be reduced or transferred to other departments. Currently discussions are being held in this regard," he added.
According to him, in addition, staff and structure changes will be carried out in the Academy and priority directions of science will be determined. "Mainly the mechanism of financing the science should be devised in accordance with the market economy," Kerimov stated.
