A court has issued a verdict on the gang members, smuggling drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan.
On July 30, the Serious Crime Court sentenced the gang members, including Iranian citizen Mikail Aslani to 15-year imprisonment, Azerbaijani citizens Etibar Aliyev, Etibar Mehraliev - 15-year imprisonment, Tarlan Muradov, Natiq Balaev, Rovshan Mammadov, Ramin Samadov - 14-year imprisonment and Rza Ahmadov - 12-year imprisonment.
The gang members smuggled 231 kilogram of hashish from Iran to Azerbaijan via the Caspian Sea.
On Dec. 23, 2008, Resident of the Neftchala Region Etibar Mehraliev received approximately 230 kilogram of hashish in the territory of the state Gizilagaj reserve from Iranian citizens of Iran, who are currently being identified and smuggled drugs via the Caspian Sea. They transported these drugs via a boat and hid them on the coast of the Neftchala Region. Then, the criminals with other gang members took the drugs from the territory.
Under the National Security Ministry's special operation plan, on Dec. 25, 2008, the cars with these drugs were detained in the Lankaran city. The officers found over 180 kilograms of hashish in the boot of the car. The officers also seized over 50 kilograms of hashish hidden in the house of Mehraliev's brother.
At the previous meeting, the prosecutor asked to sentence each member of the gang, including Etibar Aliyev, Mikail Aslanli, Tarlan Muradov, Etibar Mehraliev, Natiq Balaev, Rovshan Mammadov, Samir Samadova and Rza Ahmadov to 15-year imprisonment.
