The death toll in the train accident in Bozuyuk town of northwestern province of Bilecik rose to 5, while the number of injured was 16, Anadolu news agency reported.
Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim told AA on Thursday that Cumhuriyet Express train, travelling from Eskisehir to Istanbul, collided with a construction machine which was making an unauthorized cross over the rails at a level crossing.
He said that five of the passengers were killed in the derailed cars, and 16 others were injured, and hospitalised.
"Majority of the hospitalized passengers are lightly injured, while few of them are in serious medical condition," said Yildirim.
