Number of AIDS patients increased in south region of Azerbaijan (Lankaran, Astara, Masalli, Yardimli, Lerik, Jalilabad and Bilasuvar regions.
Presently, about 334 AIDS patients have been registered in the region, director of HIV / AIDS diagnostics laboratory of Lankaran Hygiene and Epidemiology Center, Ramiali Ibishov, told Trend on October 5.
This number hit 246 patients in corresponding period of 2008. Ibishov said that about 65-70 percent of HIV patients are drug addicts.
About 19 HIV patients were revealed in Lankaran during nine months of 2009, he said. Total number of AIDS patients hit 181 in the region.
Ibishov said that nine patients were revealed and registered during the last three months.
There are about 14 men-drug addicts of 19 patients revealed within nine months of 2009. Totally, 11 patients are from villagers but 8 - from cities. Four infected people are married couples.
About 11 AIDS patients died within nine months of 2009 but four of them for the last three months.
