The Military Court for Heinous Crimes sentenced military officer Lieutenant Elmar Mehdiyev and civilian Rauf Gafarov after charges of rape.
The prosecutor was unable to prove the rape charges. Instead the court sentenced Mehtiyev to a year in prison for abusing his official authority and Gafarov was accused of aiding and abetting the criminal.
Posing as a police officer Mehdiyev drove a young girl to Gafarov's apartment. The next day the girl told the Sabunchi District Police Department that she had been raped.
